Pumpkin Safety

Yet another warning came across the news the other day about salmonella infections in babies and young children due to having exposure to raw pumpkins. It makes sense, but this never crossed my radar! So as a gentle reminder for all of you excited to take that adorable photo of your baby in the carved out pumpkin, remember this.

  1. Wash the outside of your pumpkin before carving.

  2. After carving remove the insides and discard.

  3. Lay a barrier inside the pumpkin, a towel will do, to create a barrier between the baby and raw pumpkin.

  4. Bathe the baby immediately after you have all your adorable pictures.

  5. Don’t let them chew on the pumpkin.

  6. Older kiddos need to wash hands well after pumpkin carving activities.

Now, with this safety knowledge in mind, go out there and take some adorable photos!
