FAQ

  • What is a Doula?

It's an unfamiliar term to many, but it comes from the Greek word

that means "hand servant or, to serve." Typically a feminine term, it describes well whatDoulas do today. We serve other women in support of their labor, birth and during thepostpartum period of a woman's life.

  • I have friends and family that will be around, do I really need a Postpartum Doula?

Think about the kind of help you would like to have, the challenges of parenting you may face and your comfort level asking friends and family for help. Will this help be supportive, frequent and non-judgmental? Will they support you in your goals for breastfeeding and baby care? Do they have the latest information on these topics?

Perhaps hiring a doula can take the pressure off of your family or friends if they are unable to help you like they would want to. Or even better, hiring a doula can complete your team of people here to support you!
